January 10th is the premiere of a new military centered comedy on FOX. I heard about it and was kind of a little excited. I’m a succor for stuff like that….books, tv, movies….I love it all. However, I also happen to be a stickler when it comes to what seems to amount to mocking the military. First, lets check out what I’m talking about.
Like I said, I’m all for a military comedy! I think its the perfect time to do it. Military dramas are easy to do, comedies probably pose a little bit more of a challenge; and I get that. MASH wasn’t really a comedy, it was sort of a dramedy. Despite knowing that most people involved in the show, including many of the actors, were very outspoken against the Viet Nam war and such, they still did a fairly good job of portraying a lot of accuracy. There were faults no doubt, but I think they did a pretty fair job of walking the line between comedy and making fun. There might be a lot of people my age (that 30 year mark..eek!) that remember Major Dad. I absolutely loved that show, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about you can find it on Netflix. Major Dad, while not a workplace comedy like Enlisted, did an excellent job of pairing the funny with the realistic.
