Three Things to Organize so You Feel Accomplished for the New Year!

I love organizing, I truly do. It always feels good after, cathartic and renewing. Frequently its a good way to relive memories, and sometimes I get a little too sentimental. However, sometimes organizing is really just a fancy way of saying ‘cleaning’. It’s a chore and that’s when the organizing isn’t as fun anymore. However, I have three surefire ways to get some organizing done so that you feel accomplished and refreshed coming out of the first month of the year.

The Kitchen
Oh, the kitchen. My kitchen tends to be a catch-all. Its the closest to the laundry room/mud room where we come in from the outside. It has these amazing counters (okay, they aren’t amazing but they are there) where I can just put all the stuff from the kid’s backpacks. It’s also small…because well, I live in a house built in the 50s. Space comes at a premium and it easily can feel crowded. So here are three easy organizing projects for you to tackle.
The Tupperware Cabinet
I think most people have a cabinet like this, or a drawer. This is also where I keep my casserole dishes.
Going through this area once a year (or even once every six months) is such a good idea. My tupperware goes missing all the time, we lose it, we buy new ones. So go through it, line everything up and even if you think you might find the missing lids later (you won’t I promise), get rid of anyone missing its mate.
This is my after….
it also happens to be an excellent place to hide the juice boxes from three year olds

**super big tip alert** – take advantage of that door space!
hang insulated cooler bags like my adorable one from Thirty-One Bags.
hang your pot holders and cleaning rags. I used my door space alot. My kids Norwex
rags are hanging in our bathroom for easy access for the kiddos when they are doing chores!

The whole cup area where all the kid stuff goes. Oiy! Go through this frequently. I find stuff I shouldn’t
keep all the time, cups with chewed edges or sippy cups we really don’t need any more (cue sentimental crying…sobbing)
The Silverware Drawer
I have two of these, plus a jar on my counter I keep stuff in, one for the larger cooking utensils and one for the everyday stuff. Of course a silverware holder is amazing, and I’m assuming most people have one. I also use this space for my most frequently used larger utensils ~ can opener, apple corer, and my cute sandwich cut outs. Keeping the kiddie forks and spoons here is good too because it is easily accessible by them. They know where it is and they can get at it. Encouraging independence in this area is important, especially since my oldest now puts away the dishes as a regular chore of his.
Hopefully these three tips help you feel like you really put a dent in that new year organizing! You know, fresh start and all. I know for me, throwing stuff out really helps me feel more like I did something for some reason. Getting stuff out of the house and thrown out is just awesome. Start here and see where it goes from there!

Affresh Cleaning Products *giveaway*

Cleaning isn’t exactly my favorite thing in the world to do. While I usually feel good after I do it, and it usually ends up being cathartic. I feel so much better after I clean. There are some things, however, that pose somewhat of a cleaning challenge. What about your dishwasher and your washing machine? Frankly, I never thought about cleaning either one really. That’s where Affresh comes in. Affresh has a whole line of cleaning products, with several products specifcally designed for specific items in your house. They have products designed for your dishwasher, washingmachine, stainless steele items and your cooktop!

Affresh Dishwasher cleaner can help rid your dishwasher of mineral buildup, which can improve the effectiveness of it. The Whirpool Corporation actually recommends that you clean your dishwasher once a month. Now, as far as the washing machine goes, I first thought of the need to clean it after I saw the commericls after odor problems with man HE washing machines. We don’t happen to have an HE washing machine, but I feel like regular washing machines may have some similar issues with build-up. I mean, why not? Now an extra side not for those that Cloth Diaper. I have used the cleaner for several months, I noticed difference immediately with the smell of the washing machine, BUT I haven’t noticed an adverse effect with the cloth diapers. You never know, especially with children with sensitive skin, whether or not putting anything extra in your washing machine will effect it. Thishasn’t been a problem for us.

Affresh is so much more than just cleaning products. They have great cleaning tips like DIY tips to clean your shower’s glass doors and your mirrors. Find more tips, like how to get stains like mustard, charcol and melted butter out, on the Affresh Blog!

I like the fact that Affresh is recommneded by leading manufacturers like, Whirpool, Amana and Maytag. Affresh is also available at many local retailers. Look for these products at WalMart, Sears, RC Willey and Home Depot. To find one of these, or another retailer, your area visit Affresh on the web and enter your zipcode!
Affresh has graciously offered one of my lucky winners the opportunity to win some products from their cleaning line. Good luck!
**I was provided with products from Affresh in exchange for my honest opinion and review. I was not compensated in any other way. My thoughts and opinions are my own.**

Purex Insiders – Soft Scrub + Giveaway

Hope everyone’s weekend is off to a great start.  To kick off the weekend I have some info about a new product that I was able to try thanks to Purex Insiders.

Softscrub is a product that I have used before, for cleaning my toilet, but I had not tried any of their other products before.  They have some new products that I had the pleasure of trying, several of which I was excited about.  Mostly because I’m always on the look out for cool new products to try, to make cleaning fast and easy.  With three kids six and under, fast and easy is one of my mottos.  At the home we live in now we only have one bathroom…I know I know, it’s totally crazy.  It’s adorable home built in the 50’s, and having grown up in a house with one bathroom I figured we could survive for awhile.  The adorableness of the home, the playroom and the amazing backyard is worth the trade off.  However, in about 10 years I might be singing a different tune, with two teenagers in the house.

The SoftScrub products I had the opportunity to try were the Soft Scrub Total bathroom, and the SoftScrub total All Purpose, with Bleach.  Of the two I was most interested in the Bathroom cleaner.  Cleaning the tub is really the bane of my existence.  Making sure it stays clean and bright, while making sure three kids who love to play outside are also clean, can be one of those tough mom jobs.  I was extremely pleased with the outcome of using this product.  It has two options for spraying the product on the surface to be cleaned, a simple spray and a foam.  I love the foam because it doesn’t run down as fast when you’re cleaning the sides of a bathtub or shower.  I left it on for only about five minutes and was absolutely amazed at how well it worked.  But, what I loved even more about the product was the smell.  It was not a knock me out, cleaner smell, and I didn’t feel like I was just dying to get out of the bathroom even with the door open.  Next, I used the all purpose cleaner to clean the white top of my stove.  It went on well, cleaned it quickly, without having to let it sit or reapply.

All in all I was quite pleased with the products and I would highly recommend these to anyone looking to try some new cleaners.

5 out of 5 stars!
