Selfless Fashion for the Fashion Minded

Self-less fashion: The act of dressing fashionably while helping others

I’m a little partial to this up and coming company, 1) because its right here in my own backyard and 2) one of the people behind this amazing concept is someone I call friend.  When I first heard of it I thought it was genius.  The One-for-One model is very common concept, made famous by TOMS, and copied by many.  While many companies send the other “one” out to the world, Eastern Drift chooses to bless those that live right here.  That is something I love and can get behind.

There’s so potential and room for growth with an idea like that.  It could be and do so many things and I’m definitely excited to see where this company goes in the future.

Dress  Socially.  Help Locally.
Buying from Eastern Drift will only help them continue to grow their reach.  So, even if you aren’t local to the DC Metro Area you’re doing your part to one day get Eastern Drift to your town.
Currently Available Items (hats are sold out right now – I was so freaking bummed!)

If you happen to be local to the Northern Virginia area Eastern Drift is one of the 2014 Sponsors of Foxfield Races.  I’m pretty excited to go this year (although that is still in the works).  Ever since I found a ton of Kentucky Derby Mint Julep glasses in my Grandparent’s basement I’ve kind of been obsessed with the whole horse race thing.  Seriously, the pictures alone make me want to check it out.  Boys in pink shirts and mint green bow ties, the hats, the whole deal!  I want it!!!

Find Eastern Drift on social media platforms…spread the word! So far I’ve gotten six of my friends to realize how much they need a little selfless fashion in their lives…I’m winning you all over to the darkside (in a good way).

#MilitaryMonday – Meeting the Second Lady and reading her book *bookreview*

Before I share this MIlitary Monday post, I wanted to share with you that I have been nominated for Circle of Mom’s Top Military Mom Blogs for 2013!  It is such an honor and surprise.  I really hope that being a part of this group of ladies will provide some wonderful opportunities to share the military life story and advocate for all of us.  If you think I’m worthy of a vote I would be honored if you would.  You can actually vote for me every day until July 4th.  There are so many wonderful ladies on the list, so if you think they are awesome too please vote for them.  Thank you for stopping by.

I’ve probably said this about one million times (yes, literally), but I am so beyond blessed to be living in this city.  Blessed to know the people that I know and to feel the blessing from them for inviting, telling me, emailing me and calling me about so many wonderful things.  Having spent the majority of our military career, DC is almost overwhelming at times.

One of my milspouse friends sent us the info about a great event with Dr. Jill Biden at the Library of
Congress.  The event was to share her book with us, “Don’t Forget, God Bless Our Troops,” written about her granddaughter Natalie and the deployment of her son Beau.”  The event was also an important event for the Library of Congress in that it was the launch of a wonderful program Books and Beyond for Young People, at the Young Readers Center, which was started three years ago.  Dr. John Cole, Director for the Center of the Book, shared that Dr. Biden was chosen because supporting the children of military families was so important for the Library of Congress.  The Library of Congress has taken special of note of the trials and  uniqueness of life in the military, with the creation of The Military Voices Initiative, which a recorded history of military troops and their families, post 9/11.  It is amazing project that you can check out at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

For this special day I chose to take my daughter, for some special mommy and me time.  Ami had her copy of the book and we read along as Jill and her granddaughter read the book to us.  If you get a chance to pick up this book I would recommend it.  It is a beautifully written story that provides encouragement for children with a military parent.  The drawings are soft and sweet.  It is the perfect length and includes so much of life that each child who has experienced a deployment can relate to.  Even my four-year-old daughter understood that the little girl in the book was going through what she was going through.  At one point she said, “I have to be brave too mommy!”  Let the water work commence people.

Cammo Style Love gives this book five out of five stars.  I also want to give the experience five out five stars as well.  If you ever are in the DC area please make the Jefferson Building, Library of Congress, a stop on your tour.  The inside is absolutely gorgeous.  We didn’t have time to do a full tour, but Ami and I walked around and checked out some of the interactive stations and looked at the beautiful ceiling in the center.  Even the elevators are cool looking.   All in all it was a fun little date with my girl.

The new #GracoJogger hangs out in DC

I was so thrilled to receive the FastAction™ Fold Click Connect™ Jogger from GracoI’m a novice jogging stroller user, and a semi-novice runner.  The opportunity to check out this stroller couldn’t have come at a better time for me.  I also happen to live next door to a marathon runner, and she took a turn checking out the stroller as well, while hers was “in the shop” so to speak.  As a special perk of checking out the Graco Jogger I also had the opportunity to meet some fellow blogging mama’s here in the DC/NoVA area, at a little Graco Party Playdate.  It was something way beyond hilarious to see fourteen of us lined up with our strollers.

on our way to the party with my Graco neatly folded in the rear!

All lined up

We all seemed to be in agreement about the uniqueness of the stroller compared to other joggers we’ve used.  It is extremely light-weight, with the easy one-second, single step fold that locks upright with the kickstand.  As with most other jogging strollers, you have the real, pump tires, the locking ability for the front tire when running, and the wrist strap so it doesn’t get away from you.  Other features that the Graco Jogger has include reflectors, a cubbie on the tray to hold items and a smartphone cradle.  The one problem with the smart phone cradle, is that with my Life Proof case on it does fit in the cradle all the way.  I still sort of slide it in, and some of it sticks out, but it stays half in while I jog.  The little man feels quite comfy in the multi-position reclining seat, and is safe and sound in the 5pt or 3pt harness.

It rides smoothly and I haven’t had any problems with it while running, even though my jogging stroller expertise isn’t vast, I have used a couple other brands.  The only real critiques (other than the fact I would have to take the case off my phone to put it in the cradle) I would give it would be the handle.  It is a bit bulky and is square in shape.  My hand just fits around it, but someone with smaller hands would have a difficult time.  I personally prefer the more rounded shape, ergonomically.  It is also a tall stroller.  When my friend (who is a tad shorter than me) used it, she mentioned the tall thing.  This can also be a positive, because for someone who is taller, and for the hubby’s out there especially, this is a great stroller and some of the other moms at the event mentioned this as a perk as well.  For comparisons sake it is about the same size as my Baby Trend Sit and Stand, there’s plenty of storage room, and even though it is large, it still maneuvers quite well.  The shade really isn’t worth too much unless you are using it with the infant seat.  I don’t really feel like it comes down quite far enough to be of any real good, when I’m comparing it to the other strollers I own.

might not be exactly what its meant for there Phillip 🙂  But thanks for
demonstrating the roominess of it.

All in all its a wonderful stroller, and we’ve toted it around town and on little mini adventures – on the metro into DC, at the Natural History Museum, out to Fort Washington, MD and up the street to pick up my son from school.

You can pick up the Graco Fast Action Jogger $179.99, and the travel system for $254.99.

Graco’s NEW jogger is the ultimate crossover stroller, combining all the comfort and convenience features of a traditional stroller (FastAction Fold and Click Connect Technology) with performance and maneuverability of an all-terrain jogger.
As an added bonus, Graco’s innovative one-second, one-hand FastAction™ fold automatically locks & is self-standing.

Sunday Social, week 6

It’s days like this that I’m thankful for awesome bloggy goodness like the Sunday Social and Ashley over at Ashley’s Carnival Ride. Sometimes a good blogging rut can be broken with such awesomeness.

Sunday Social
This week’s round-up is all about Vacations! I’m excited to see what everyone else has to say about this. Now on to the good stuff. 1. What is the best trip you’ve ever been on? Well, second to my honeymoon (at a time where we could afford a digital camera – yes it was that long ago) was a recent trip the hubby and I took to the bay area. I was pregnant with our third and feeling cruddy, but we managed to plan ourselves a trip to the Ronald Regan Library and also the San Francisco. It was something on our bucket list and we wanted to get it in before we made our way back east. The Library was amazing and if you ever get the chance to go there, DO IT!

2. What is your best idea for a girls weekend trip?

Well I would say for sure San Fran!  That has been the destination of choice for many girls trips with my mama!

The last time we went, my mom, me and my aunt went on a Victorian Home Walking tour.  So amazing!!  If you are ever San Fran I would do it.  It’s pretty cool.

3. What is your best idea for a couples trip?
Well I have to say anywhere I get to go with my hubby is pretty awesome.  He’s a busy guy and we don’t get the chance to do it very often.  We had a day date a couple weeks ago and that sent me over the moon!  Surprisingly my best idea of a couples trip is camping!  We recently did this.  We went beach camping by ourselves and it was the most fun.  No technology, no huge crowds, it was fun.  Plus I’m a succor for the beach, so even camping at it is amazing.

We also celebrated the hubby’s 30th birthday!
 4. What is the best vacation on the cheap?
Well after having moved to the DC area I’ve discovered that this is an awesome place for a vacation on the cheap!  Once you get yourself here almost everything else is free.  All the museums are free practically, and as long as you can walk or pay the cheap fare for the metro you can see so much stuff just walking around the city. Living here has been an amazing experience.  And being able to see all the stuff we’ve seen just for the price of the metro or gas has been pretty amazing.
We recently took the metro to see the Cherry Blossoms and also drove 10 minutes to get to Arlington National Cemetary.

5. What is the place you want to visit most?

Definitely England.  My mom actually lived there for a couple years in the 70s.  The hubbs has gotten to go (cuz I’m an awesome wifey) and I want my passport stamped!  So much history and culture, and lots of Jane Austen places in the vicinity!

The amazing Pemberly…gonna hunt me down Colin Firth..LOL
Mr. Collins Rectory
6. What are your vacation necessities.
Well, the hubbs is Mr. Packer man and he is beyond organized.  The definition of it, I’m convinced, if you looked it up in the dictionary.  Things that come to my mind are comfy shoes, a dressy outfit, comfy pants, a big purse so you don’t look like a tourist with a backpack 😉  Make sure to have maps or gps, and your camera!!!
thanks ladies for another fabulous Sunday Social!  I’m already excited about next week.  Its all about my favorite thing.  Purses!!!!!!
thanks for stopping by Cammo Style Love.  Make sure to check to the right for some awesome military related posts and some of my most recent reviews and giveaways!  If you’re looking for a good book check out the bookshelf up top.
