Mil Spouse Friday Fill-In – February 2013

I’m glad this fun hop has come around again. I think I missed it last month.  Although, I’m still a little sad that its only once a month.

There’s lots of fun stuff going on here on the blog – new book reviews, and post about Women in Combat, and an eco-friendly, hypo-allergenic laundry detergent giveaway!  Hope you can stay awhile and check them out.  If you haven’t participated in a fill-in before, check it out.  I’ve found some great Military blogs this way.  It’s always good fun!

1. What’s one thing in the past month you would have changed?
I wish my hubby would have been able to attend the Kid’s Inaugural event with us.  Its always hard when he misses stuff like that.  We had fun, but it would have been nice.  You can see my post about that here.

2. What was your favorite thing that happened in January?
I think my most favorite thing was probably the Kid’s Inaugural.  It may be a sort of once in a lifetime thing.  I don’t know for sure if we will ever experience that again, and I’m just so blessed that we were able to do that.

3. What are you looking forward to in February?
I’m really excited for a lot of things!  Some more volunteer work, a conference about dealing with military Children and their schools, and a possible Strong Bonds conference.  We’ve never been able to go to one, but its on our list as a goal as soon as possible.  we are waiting to hear if there is room at the one we want to go to, closest to us.

 4. What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?
My hubby surprised me this Christmas with tickets to Bon Jovi!  It is on my concert bucket list.  I’m super excited.  Its the Sunday before V-Day, so we will be celebrating early.  I’m thrilled!

5. What is your best advice for a MilSpouse whose spouse is deployed for Valentine’s Day?
Don’t stay by yourself!  Get out with some girlfriends, have a chic night in, pampering.  From someone that has been there many a times, those times where I did something like that were the best!

Can’t wait to read everyone’s fill-in!

Thanks for stopping by!

Thank goodness its Friday!!

The first week of the New Year is almost over and I’m getting this blogging year off to a good start. There’s also some other things I’m getting off to a good start. I’m working on review two different work-out apps, while also getting my fit on, which is already making me feel better. I am doing an arm workout app, that I got off of Apps Gone Free one day. It is a six-week program to better arms. It sells regularly for $2.99. You put in your stats and it customizes a six week program for you. My first workout I did yesterday was 8 minutes. It was a pretty good workout for the arms, nothing to shrug off that’s for sure. I also just started couch to 5k. I really don’t want to be a runner, or make running a thing. I’ve never been a runner, probably won’t be. I don’t imagine myself running a marathon. What I do see is myself running with the hubby every once in awhile, being a good example for my children and perhaps jump-starting my weight loss, post Phillip. For the running I am using is the C25K – 5K Trainer Free by Zen Labs. It is a Run for Pink app in partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which makes me love it even more. And my last Fitness New Beginning is the restarting up of my P90X! They had the app on sale, which I think it might still be, for .99! If you’re interested in that check it out. You can get the full program on there for various prices, but there are also plenty of free things and workouts as well.

I’m excited to keep you all updated on that, so make sure to check back in on Fridays!!! I’ll have picture updates too – gulp!

As if this post wasn’t already all over the place, how about some Mil-Spouse First Friday Fill-in. If you’re here for that check out my giveaway for Military Romance Novels (they’re fun!).  Now that this only comes once a month (*tear*) I can’t not squeeze it in!

1. What’s one thing in the past month you would have changed?
I really would have liked to have been sick less.  December was rough.  Every week at least two of us was sick – a new thing every week – virus, stomach flu, colds, severe colds.  It was gnarly!

2. What was your favorite thing that happened in December?
Probably visiting the White House.  I wish the hubby had been there, but such is the life of a military wife.

3. What are you looking forward to in January?
The hubby is taking quite a bit of leave.  I think it is one of those necessary evils.  On the one had I hate eating it up, but this has been such a rough year for us, and frankly a rough 10 years of a unique situation and I’m just over it.

4. What did you do for New Year’s Eve?
I kicked it by myself.  I had my littles with me for a pretty good chunk of the evening, but come midnight I was toasting myself – and ryan secrest of course 😉

5. What are your hopes and wishes for 2013?
To recover as a family, and personally.  I sort of elluded to the roughness of life.  Pretty soon here I think I might put pen to paper so to speak (thoughts to blog) and talk about it.  I know I’m not the only one out there but its been rough.  I’m hoping 2013 is the year of fun, fancy free, historical landmark visiting, relaxed life!

Mil-Spouse Friday Fill-In #75

Happy Friday everyone!  I can’t believe this week is over already.  It’s already the second week of October.  Holy Cow!  My daughter will be 4 this month and my baby boy will be 1!  I’m so happy you are stopping by for another Fill-In this week.  I’m sad they aren’t every week anymore, but that just makes me all the more excited when they roll around every month!  Thanks so much to Wife of a Sailor for another great fill-in!  Much love girl!  If you are a new follower please let me know and I will happily return the favor.

1. What’s one thing you would like to change about the last month if you could?

I don’t know.  It was a pretty good month in general.  The hubby was gone a lot this last month and I would have liked to have changed that a little bit, but wouldn’t we all 😛

2. What was your favorite thing you did in September?

Well, despite the fact the hubby was gone there was so much fun to be had in the month of September!  It was the hubby’s birthday and we did a little bit of family outing adventures.  I took the kids to a couple Fall Festivals and Fairs.  And one of my good friends that I originally met on a military support forum came to visit again (I love being so close!)

3. Sometimes I like to sit on my couch and eat ______ from a ______ with a _________. – Courtesy of Just Another Snarky Navy Wife

Frosting, from a tub with spoon…wanna fight about it?!  LOL!

4. What are your favorite childhood Halloween costumes?

My grandma was quite the sewer and many many many of my childhood costumes were made by her.  I also still have most of them and my daughter will get to wear them!

Some of my favorites were Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Bride and Scarlett O’hara!

This intense spoiling has only made it terribly hard for me to find costumes that meet my approval for my children, especially my daughter.  Seriously, I am not buying a Halloween costume that has a picture of the person they are supposed to be on a little button thing on the actual costume.   How ridiculous is that?  They aren’t even trying anymore.  This year’s Ariel costume that is in the store doesn’t even look like Ariel?  I mean, what are we teaching our children that everything has to have glitter and sparkles and rhinestones and sequins?!  It’s so ridiculous!!  *end rant*

5.  What are you looking forward to in October?

I am really looking forward to my Mom coming!  Yippeeee!!!!   We are going to walk around Old Town Alexandria, which I haven’t done yet.  I have to do some research.  And we are going to go to Ford’s Theater…which, Hello!!, who wouldn’t be excited about that?  I’m also hoping to do a little meet-up with a couple of my mil-spouse girls!

that’s me (dark hair) with my mom and dad!  Probably 1989 :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Military First Friday Fill-in #73

Greetings all, time for one of my favorite parts of the month, the Friday Fill-In.  Whoop whoop!!!  I’m totally late on this, seeing as its 10:15pm, but let me just say this has been a ridiculous day and week for that matter.  Phillip is ridiculously fussy with the teething and seriously, this mama’s boy is getting old.  I know I know, please shoot me in 10 years when he wants nothing to do with me.  I’m sure I have some VA/DC readers here, so you will know first hand about this ridiculous storm and the 2 million people that originally were going without power.  Holy Cow!  So needless to say I’m like really behind, then throw in teething, a five year old with summer-itis and a three year old with a fever, you have a recipe for disaster and non-blogging.

Some really exciting things and housekeeping here.  Check out the side bar for a coupon giveaway and sweepstakes, as well as amazing series of guest posts about military life from some amazing ladies.  You will also find a military discount from a fabulous Cammo Love sponsor, Leading Lady, who makes amazing bras!  Also, I am so excited and honored to have written for Spouse Buzz about OPSEC.  I’m pretty proud of my first big writing experience.

Now for the questions!  Thanks again for the amazing Wife of Sailor for doing this!

1. What’s one thing in the past month you would have changed?
Gosh, the last month…..nothing really in the last month.  I think the month before I had wanted to attend a Memorial at the National Cathedral and didn’t go because I had the kids and I was worried about that.  I should have just gone.  I could have handled it!

 2. What was your favorite thing that happened in June?
My brother from another mother came through town with his band.  That was pretty darn exciting.  I haven’t seen him about two years.  Now that I’m on the East Coast I’ll probably seem them more which is so exciting!!

3. What did you do to celebrate Independence Day?
Well, the hubby was working but arrived just in time for fireworks!  I packed up the kids and made it to our first parade over here.  It was so amazing.  The support for the military, and the military involvement in the parade was amazing!  Loved it!!

4. When you PCS, what items do you take with you and not let the movers pack (and if you do a DITY, what do you take with you and not box up) (thanks to Sespi at And You Never Did Think for inspiring this question)?
Important documents and special items like jewelry and stuff of the children’s.

5. What are you looking forward to in July?
I’m looking forward for some more sightseeing with the hubby and finishing up some major DIY projects around the house!  (be on the look out for that)

Thanks for stopping by!!
