I wouldn’t consider myself to be a glutton for punishment, but why oh why did I pick up Nicholas’ Sparks latest “soon to become a movie” book. Why oh Why!!!!?? *shakes head in hands* I’ll tell you why. It was an evil trick and you suck Nicholas Sparks!! Here’s the trick people
The second trick is even worse!!!
Although, to be fair I hadn’t seen Trick #2 when I went onto amazon and got the book. So there I was, innocent and sweet, reading what looked to be like a romantic love story. You know he lulled us into submission Safe Haven. I loved the book and the movie. It ended exactly how you wanted to end it; and it was almost as if a women had written it. But I should have known better. This is Nicholas Sparks we’re talking about. (and just for a fun fact – my 12 degrees of separation is that Nicholas Sparks went to high school with my mom’s best friend – my non-biological aunt) So I had faith; faith that the streak would continue and this would be a beautiful love story. Oh man, love that spans time…..nothing can break it, even growing up and moving on. But then……
**THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO STOP READING…BECAUSE I AM OUTING THE WHOLE THING MAN!!!**
So I started to read the book, and she was married. Married!! Freaking married! So anything she does with the love of her life is going to be an affair. What? Then, they try to make you hate her husband because he drinks; but there is so much more to the story than that. Then, out of nowhere her son gets in a horrendous car accident, has to go to the hospital, starts to get better, and then his heart takes a turn for the worse. And then it becomes like watching a horrible train wreck in slow motion. You know the kind where you can’t look away. I knew exactly what was going to happen. It all became clear, which either says a lot about me – that I am an amazing book reader and should be writing my own books – or it says that Mr. Sparks is running out of gusto. You shouldn’t be able to see the ending coming from a mile away, at least I don’t think so. Although I guess I should say you shouldn’t be able to see a horrible ending coming from a mile away. Seeing a happily ever coming from a mile away is somehow okay with me.
He dies, Dawson freaking dies because her son gets his heart. Seriously?? I mean come on people?!!! Oh, I was so mad!!! And I’m still mad…seriously I will never fall for one of his evil tricks again!!!! Fool me once, shame on me…fool me twice…shame on you!!
so, there you have it, A Walk To Remember was beautiful, despite the sadness. I loved The Notebook. You were lucky I found out about all the others before committing to reading them or going to see the movie. Then Safe Haven totally lulled me into complacency. Never again man!!! You Suck!!!
**this review was not sponsored by anyone, my thoughts and opinions are my own…including my Snark and Sarcasm. Don’t hate me!**
Before I go any further, who here is a fan of Criminal Minds…..well, you happen to be reading the blog of the Number 1 fan…and the daughter of the Number 2 fan (Hi MOM!). If you know the show, you know this adorable guy…
Meet Shemar Moore, the adorable Derek. I am so excited to be a part of a new campaign with Shemar, for his new movie The Bounce Back. Derek is a talented actor, who also appeared in Diary of a Mad Black Women, who is now adding Executive Producer to his resume with his new film. The Bounce Back is the story of finding courage to love, and bounce back, after love has let you down. I have been very fortunate in life, to have found my Mr. Air Force at only 15, and to be so lucky as to have found that “love of my life.” But loss is something that everyone can relate to. No one is immune to it. It is probably the great equalizer. We all know what that is like and all the emotion that goes along with it. It can be hard to recover from sometimes. Shemar is no different. He connected with the story and decided to take this project on. You need to have passion behind a project in order for it to truly succeed.
Shemar decided to harness that passion in the form of the fans. I’m sure you all remember the huge media frenzy over the donations for a Veronica Mars movie. It was crazy how a small grass roots effort took off. The idea behind this is similar. I think its pretty awesome, getting the fans involved. It makes us feel connected to something that we wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to connect to. That’s pretty freaking awesome. I know that I’m a succor, not only for romance and Criminal Minds, but for Hollywood and all the fun, the glitz and the glamour. I’m also a fan of the smaller budget films. From my experience these are the ones with the passion, with the meaning behind them. They aren’t necessarily about the glitz and the flash. Its usually the story that matters. When I had the opportunity to read more about The Bounce Back, and how the people connected with the film felt about it, I knew that I wanted to be able to take the time to share this with all of you.
“The Bounce Back” is a heartfelt romantic comedy about finding the courage to love after love has let you down.
When I read “The Bounce Back” – that very same issue was at the core of the script and the character, Matthew Taylor. I saw a lot of myself in Matthew, although I’ve never written a book (but I’m thinking about it now, hint, hint). I felt a kindred spirit to what Matthew was going through and my own life. Matthew loses his wife, his first love and after a short recovery creates a best selling book and a system of survival in order to shield himself from the pain. He throws himself into a year long speaking tour.
That system of survival; his book and speaking tour, keeps him from falling in love again when he meets the perfect girl, the beautiful and zany Kristin Moreland. Matthew realizes that he has to renounce his book and the world he has created around it in order to take the big unknown plunge of letting himself fall in love again.
I think there is a wonderful poetry to that, the idea of risking it all for love. And I feel, in my heart, that is why we’re here on this planet. To love. After I put down the screenplay, “The Bounce Back,” I knew I had to make this movie simply because I believe in love all the way down to the fabric of my being.” — Shemar Moore
Now you can be a part of this unique campaign by visiting The Bounce Back’s Indegogo page. Word of mouth is the name of the game, and your involvement will not go without being rewarded. There are some great gifts for getting involved. Tweet about it, tell your friends on facebook or any other Social Media Outlet, so that we can get this movie made! Because really, who doesn’t want a cute romance to watch….I mean seriously. You can be a part of this and make The Bounce Back and success!

For several of the last Father’s Days I’ve usually asked the hubby if there’s something he would like. He’s usually seeking to build up his camping/backpacking gear or looking for a specific book. There’s a long list of random military related items that he’s had over the years, on his list. Some pretty cool stuff that I would never have thought of in a million years. Personally I think dads can be pretty hard to shop for. Other than a tie (total stereotype) what do you get them if they don’t collect something. So I thought I’d create a few posts highlighting some of some cool gadgets and books for the hard to shop for military dad (or any dad that likes super cool stuff). Ladies, this is some pretty awesome and random stuff….major brownie points here!
1. Stormproof Butane lighters. This is a must have in hubby’s life Not only is it good for work related deployments and travel, he takes this camping and backpacking with him. He loves this thing! Finding a lockable one, and one that can light even when wet are good tips ladies.
2. Danner Boots – I don’t know about you, but sometimes boots that are issued aren’t all that great. So hubby actually asked for, and received for his birthday one year, super suped up Danner boots. Best brand out there in his opinion.
3. Fisher Space Pen – We love the space pen, and have actually been to the factory outside of Las Vegas. Grab him the original space pen, get it engraved, and he’ll be able to write upside down and under water!
4. Rite in the Rain – This is all weather writing paper and hubby is obessed with. I swear he buys it in bulk. I’m sure there are other brands out there, but this is the real deal brand to go with. They have tactical kits for the military man, desert color, in loose leaf, bound and spiral notebooks. This stuff is pretty awesome.
5. Purchase tickets for the pre-screening premier of Man of Steel!
Wal-Mart has partnered with Warner Bros for this super cool event. They are providing us with a unique opportunity to purchase tickets to the premier for Man of Steel in your local Wal-Mart electronics Department. My dad is all about seeing movies for his birthday. He loves that kind of stuff, like I’m willing to bet there are a lot of dads out there that are a succor for a good comic book/superhero franchise Wal-Mart is providing a unique opportunity to purchase tickets to see the movie before it is regularly released. When you purchase your tickets you will also receive a special comic book written by the author of Man of Steel, as well as the chance to pre-order an exclusive HD download or Blu-Ray copy of the film.
