Book Blogger w/Parajunkee – TBR Shelf…How Many?

I wish I had seen this blogging challenge in the beginning.  Don’t you hate when that happens?  You see something super cool and its half-way over or over before you get to it.  If you’ve never visited the Parajunkee, and you happen to be a book lover, then you’re missing out.  I love her reviews and book choices; and she’s definitely gotten me to step out of my book comfort zone.  If you are a book blogger, there’ s three more days posts and you can see the past posts with linky’s to other blogs participating.

Today’s prompt is “TBR Shelf…How Many?”

I was doing dishes ... one thing led to another ... and somehow I ended up reading. ;) http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/29/91/01/2991017b995c7fbc25f586f0e01a680d.jpg

I couldn’t pass up this topic, because for reals yo…I have a serious book hording problem.  And not just in the physical sense.  Goodreads was both good and bad for me.  Good because it helped me organize myself.  It’s mostly been good when I want to read a whole series of books and what to keep track of the order.  It is best invention ever when I’m in a store and see a book sitting on a shelf…and now I’m resisting the urge to buy it.  Now all I have to do is load up my Goodreads app and enter it in and crisis adverted.  I have stacks of books everywhere in my house that I haven’t even loaded up to Goodreads.  It’s a sickness I tell you!

So what’s my number?  It’s 257 on-line.  Yup, 257 on the To-Read Shelf.  That is not including the probably 50ish books at my house, stacked all over the place.  Oh my heavens I had no idea that it was that high until I looked for this post.  It seems like every day I find new ones.  It’s pretty much ridiculous considering I only read 53 books last year for my challenge.  Clearly I have to step it up.

Confucius - "No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance." #reading #read #quote

I’m not sure what the best way to go about it, as I usually tend to flit about from book to book.  Sometimes I’ll just bang out 3 or 4 books in a series, but most of the time there’s no rhyme or reason.  I do have an entirely separate shelf that is called “Books to Read Before I Die.”  I’ve found several lists under that title, and every time I see it I’ll make sure I’m not missing a book and add it.

you're doing it wrong

I hope I’m not alone in this craziness!  What are your top To-Read books on your radar right now?  I want to hear them!  Are you on Goodreads?  If you are we should definitely be friends!

Book Challenges 2014!

It’s a new year, so that means a new book challenge!  This year I’m also doing a couple separate challenges within the main one.  I’ve found a ton of book bloggers out there and am just loving reading them, getting book suggestions and finding out about all these different book challenges.  Right now I’m waiting for Semi-Charmed Kinda Life to start up her new challenge.  Hers is super cool and very in-depth, with all these need specific challenges.  So very excited about that one.  This year for the Goodreads challenge I stepped it up fifteen books for a total of sixty-five books to read in a year.  I need to get it in high gear if I want to make it.  For the 2013 challenge I went past what I guesstimated I would do; and I’m hoping to repeat that this year.

A new blog I stumbled upon, The Book Vixen, has several different challenges that she is hosting.  A couple of them caught my eye, but if you go check her out you can see there are tons more.  For this year I’ll be doing three.

2014 Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge

For the Out-do yourself challenge I hope to read 15 more than last year…I’ll be in the “Breaking a Sweat” category!

2014 Men in Uniform Reading Challenge
Since this is my favorite book category of late (check out Rhe’s Bookshelf up top – its an obsession), I’m hoping to reach the top category of Chief, which is 16+ Men in Uniform books!  Challenge accepted!
2014 Read Your Freebies! Reading Challenge
For this challenge I’m hoping to do definitely the first category “Coupon Clipper”, but would be super excited to complete the second category, which is 24 books (Penny Pincher).

I’m excited for these book challenges.  Are you participating in any this year?

Goodreads Book Challenge, Books 20-38

It was only maybe two years ago that my reading really started picking up.  I have always been a huge reader, from childhood and on.  There have definitely been seasons of reading in my life, where I have read more or less then other times.  College was a time of less for fun reading.  Who has time for that when you’re studying and attending classes.  I will say that I loved college, and I loved most of my classes, so a lot of that reading was semi-for fun.  Probably close to three years ago I started using Goodreads to keep track of my books, what I’ve read and what I wanted to read.  Goodreads also does a book challenge and every year I’ve totally failed.  Getting really sick with Phillip, having him, surgery, moving, adjusting, deployment….yeah, the last two years were just terrible in the reading department.  This year I’m well ahead of schedule and I shouldn’t have low-balled my challenge number but I did.  So right now I just finished book number 38 of 50, and I don’t see myself slowing down anytime soon.  Make sure you check out my previous post for the first 19 books on my list.

Navy Baby (Navy #5)  Truth Be Told  Navy Woman (Navy #4)  The Winnowing Season (Amish Vines and Orchards, #2)  Grace's Pictures  Jimmy (Red, Hot & Blue, #3)
16 Lighthouse Road (Cedar Cove, #1)  Mr. Lincoln's T-Mails: How Abraham Lincoln Used the Telegraph to Win the Civil War  Murder in the Smithsonian (Capital Crimes, #4)  Navy Husband (Navy #6) (Silhouette Special Edition #1693)  The Christian Mama's Guide to the Grade School Years: Everything You Need to Know to Survive (and Love) Sending Your Kid Off Into the Big, Wide World  Take a Chance on Me (Christiansen Family, #1)

The Soldier's Newfound Family (Texas Twins, #5)  Jimmy (Red, Hot & Blue, #3) Jack (Red, Hot & Blue, #2)  A Man For The Summer  Mission: Motherhood Hidden Under Her Heart (Chance For Love #2)

A Season for Tending (Amish Vines and Orchids #1)Hugo The Happy Starfish: The Last Bully

There have been some good books in this group here and most of them I have reviewed here on the blog.  You can find the review for one of my top five of this grouping, The Soldier’s Newfound Family, on group blog and online community, Fancy Little Things.  You can also find some of the books from this year’s challenge on my summer reading list picks over at The Homefront United.  Make sure to check those out if you’re looking  for some good books to read or add to your ever growing list.  If you don’t use Goodreads I’m telling you that you are missing out.  It changed my life…well, as far as my reading life goes.  But seriously, it changed my life.  And, as always, you can check out my bookshelf  tab up top or find me on facebook and ask me anything!!

What are you reading right now?  Do you have a reading challenge you participate in?  Do you have a favorite summer reading book, or books?

Sunday Social

Well, clearly this is my favorite post because its seriously the only thing I can be consistent about right now. I keep telling myself that this is one of the busiest seasons in my life right now. With three kids, 6,4 and 1…well, there really isn’t too much explaining that needs to be done. Throw in moving in January and a military hubby its a recipe for craziness. So, again I will say I promise to be better. I know that this blog is mostly for me…I mean, you always hope that your blog means something, that people think it IS something, but you never know how many of those people really read your stuff all the time. One can only hope right?

But, enough of the yammering and the blah blah. time for the good stuff! I can’t wait to see who links up this week and discover some new blogs!!!

1. What is your favorite childhood book?

I remember loving The Bobbsey Twins, especially The Bobbsey Twins Adventure in Washington, which I might have to pull out and read because I live here now. I also read a lot of Nancy Drew and Anne of Green Gables, and the whole series. the Mandie books, are a Christian series that were really great too.

 2. What is your favorite book lately?

well if you are a stranger to my blog then you won’t know this…but if you aren’t one, you know that I’m a crazy book reader!  find me on Goodreads!!  I love reading and I review a lot of books.  I’ve actually been reading a lot of Military Romance books.  Crazy right?  Romance has never really interested me and frankly I had no clue what they were about.  I was always picturing Fabio and what not. But, while some of them are like that, many of them are exactly what they are called, Romance!  They really are all about the romance and not the other stuff. Throw in a uniform and I’m such a succor for it.  My fav so far has got to be Navy Rules.  Check out Geri’s site, and be on the look out for some upcoming reviews!

 3. What is the book you wish you could live in?

Well, that’s the easiest question ever…probably some Jane Austen…almost any of them really…Persuasion or Sense and Senseability are my favorite.   I love me some Austen.

4. If you could be any character from a book, who would it be and why?
That’s a hard question!!  Just one?  I’d love to be so many.  Maybe Elinor from Sense and Sensibility.  she’s so strong and brave. She endured so much and lived happily ever after!

5. What is your favorite book turned movie?

so I”m sure you’re going to be sensing a pattern.  there are so many good books that became movies!  Pride and Prejudice (the BBC one with colin firth and not that skinny twig Keira Knightly – yes I’m an Austen snob), but John Grisham’s, The Pelican Brief…excellent book..excellent movie Robert Graysmith’s, Zodiac…and I’m most excited for Cross by James Patterson. His first movies from the books Along Came a spider and Kiss the Girl, were terribly cast and so farrrrr from the book it made me want to spit and I totally fast-forward through most of them.  Drove the hubbs crazy!

6. What is your favorite magazine?
I’m totally lame and boring, but I love my Crochet Magazine, my Smithsonian magazine. I do occasionally get some of the fun, mindless ones. I like LIfe and STyle.  it’s fun and cheap!
Hope your week is awesome!!!!!!
